Birthday Fun

On Tuesday, July 27th, I turned 23!! Woohoo! To accommodate everyone's schedule, we had 3 days of celebrating, which I was totally OK with :)

On Sunday, we had relatives on my mom's side come for dinner and games.  The dinner was amazing; grilled salmon with tons of different side salads (my favorite), and the yummiest cheesecake! We played beach volleyball and ultimate frisbee.

My darling niece Emma sang me a song for my birthday present. At the beginning, while the intro music was playing, she looked at me and said "This is for you, Kylee. Happy birthday." In a very serious, adult sounding voice, and then proceeded with her performance.  She's 4.  No one told her to do that.  It was so cute!

On Monday, I went to lunch at Fredrico's with my mom and Grandma (on my dad's side). It was a lot of fun, I love that place!

On Tuesday, I hung out with Brod in the afternoon, went to get ice cream with my good friend Maryn and then went to dinner at Smokin' Blues with the fam.

-------------------------

I told Brody that all I wanted from him this year was for him to plan a fun day date for us (it's usually me who comes up with things like that) so I gave him a small list of instructions (one rule being that he can only spend $10, which probably made things much harder) but he really came through!

A few days before, he gave me an invitation to our date stating when, where, what to bring etc. I loved that!

Then on Tuesday, we started the date by attending noon music at the Tabernacle (a fun, {free} tradition that Logan does every summer with local musicians of all kinds).

After that, we went for a walk on campus and just happened upon this lovely scene:

While we were at the performance, he had arranged for 'someone' (my mom) to set up this picnic for us.  It was complete with balloons, sparkling cider with our special occasion glasses, sandwiches from Great Harvest that I mentioned once that I wanted to try and of course dessert: A great big honkin brownie!

It was the cutest thing ever and it was so much fun to spend the afternoon just Brody and I.  Much better than anything he could have bought me. :)

It was a wonderful day and a big thanks to everyone who helped make it so!

Random Happenings in May & June

Here are a bunch of random things that have taken place between the time that we got back to Utah and now.

Mexican night with the Nelson's. We had some amazing authentic shredded beef taco's, other Mexican style food, Mexican music, and Brody shaved a mustache just for this night (and because he likes to do that anyway). It was great fun!
We also had fun that night with a really cool thing called the magic berry. You eat this berry pill and it makes bitter/sour things taste sweet. We were chowing down on lemons and limes like it was nothing! We also tried things like: vinegar, baking cocoa, pickles, tomatoes and more. It was so cool!

Jumping on the tramp with Sal

Hiked to the wind caves with Brody's fam.

Went boating!!

Babysat my nephew Dylan and 'niece' Lydia.

Went to my brother's baseball game.

Enjoyed a Modest Mouse concert for FREE! Apparently, in SLC they have free concerts every Thursday night. Why don't more people know about this?!

Went to Miss Lydia's first birthday party. Lindsey had the CUTEST decorations!

We're loving our lazy summer and all the fun activities we get to participate in!

Bear Lake with Brod's fam

We spent last weekend at Brody's aunts cabin in Bear Lake with his mom and her husband.  We enjoyed playing cards, air hockey, watching a fun new show and going for a walk (until it started raining) during the day... (I LOVED that cute cabin decoration. So creative.)

Then that night we had a fire with hot dogs and smore's (I made the PERFECT mallow that night-- perfectly plump and golden. It was great!) and watched a scary movie.

The next day we spent a few hours at the beach. We found a perfect spot and enjoyed some water, sand and sun. Our nephew Dylan came along and added a lot to the fun! He's such a cute kid. We also taught Sal how to swim. I think that might have been the best day of his life thus far.

We had a lot of fun!

4 days of the 4th of July!!

Since the 4th of July was on a Sunday this year, cities in Utah chose to display their works-of-fire on a different day so as not to disturb the Sabbath, and lucky for me they all chose a different day-- resulting in 4 days of celebrating the 4th of July!! {p.s. I think this should become a country wide tradition/requirement since everyone LOVES this holiday so much!}

1): The first was the Logan city fireworks on Friday July 2nd. Brody and I spent the night eating out at Firehouse Pizza (following the common theme of fire. plus it's yummy. plus we had a gift card) and then met up with our friends at a park for some slack-lining fun, then to Spoon Me, then ended the night with watching the fireworks. A great time was had by all but sadly I didn't take pictures.

2): The second was my favorite-- Liberty city fireworks on Saturday July 3rd. They were so good they made me cry. Sad/embarrassing, but true. Here's the story: Since it's such a small city, the fireworks are done in a park and everyone lays down on the grass and watches as the sky becomes filled with fireworks. They also do a little program before the show explaining the meaning and words of the National Anthem (which is really cool) and then we all stand up and sing it together. During the words: "and the rocket's red glare" they shoot up a blast of red fireworks and then during: "the bombs bursting in air" they shoot up one of those really loud fireworks, and, for whatever reason, that made me cry. Maybe from actually understanding what those words really mean... Anyway, we went there with the Bundy's and had a lot of fun.

3): On Sunday, the actual 4th of July, we had a little get-together with some cousins and did fun things including dinner, scum, fondue chocolate dessert, 4-square, ultimate frisbee and our own fireworks in the street.
4): For our fourth and final day of celebrating the 4th of July (Monday, July 5th) we made a whole day out of it with all my relatives in the valley. We started off with breakfast, America Jeopardy, sidewalk chalk patriotic art, and volleyball.

Then we headed to a park for kick ball, more 4-square and pizza for lunch.

To end the day, we had a BBQ at aunt Annie's along with activities including frisbee golf, shooting, a relay race, fear factor and watching the Hyrum fireworks show.
The funniest part of the whole day was when we sang happy birthday to Annie (since her birthday is the 5th) but Brody didn't know it was her birthday and thought we were singing happy birthday to America. We all had a good laugh when he loudly sang "happy birthday dear Ameri--oh--Annie....." It was hilarious!

All in all, we had a wonderful 4th of July and my love for this holiday grows more every year!
