Hike to Grey Rock

A couple weekends ago (on June 1st, actually), I went on a long but fun hike with my friend Julia.  Brody was in California for his friend's wedding, so I was happy to have someone to hang out with for the day.  The hike was 8 miles total and took us about 4.5 hours.  It was very pretty, but in a different sort of way.  Remember last summer when we had that horrible wildfire?  Well, we definitely saw the damage it did while on our hike. It was so sad to see so much of the mountains just burned to a crisp and to think of the raging fire burning for weeks on end last year, causing many people to evacuate and even lose their homes.  But it was also cool to see the start of new grass and a new forest starting to grow.  I guess that's just the way the life works.

Poor forest....

Taking a little break/rest on a burned tree (my bum was black after that.... oops!)

Weird looking rock -  I called it butt rock...... and-a-half

We went all the way to the top of that rocky hill - we had already been hiking for about an hour and a half at this point

We definitely had to use the rock piles as markers because there wasn't a clearly marked path towards the end

The very last part of the hike was just scrambling up big boulders.  It was pretty fun.

Cool little lake at the top

Here's the beautiful view from the top.  We could see for miles in every direction!

Me and Julia - we had lunch at the top, then headed back down

Our little friend during lunch-time

Such a pretty view!!  (The background, not me)

{ps - sorry for all the thousands of pictures of the same hike, but taking scenery pictures is one of my all-time favorite things to do.}

{pps - also, get used to it too, because we have a LOT of fun outdoor adventures planned for the summer}

I totally thought I commented on this yesterday when I read it. Good think I double checked! So sad about the destruction of the fires! That really takes some of the fun out of hiking- to not see how beautiful and green everything is! I'm glad you have a hiking friend and that you were able to do that. You look funny on that black log!

I'm so sorry!! How have I missed so many of your posts? I love what a fun life you have in Colorado and how active you two are. Your photography skills are amazing. Isn't Colorado so much better than sweaty, hot Arizona?!
