Climbing the Flat Irons

Last Saturday, Brody and I headed to the Flat Irons in Boulder, CO (an hour away) for a rock climbing adventure!!  Brody took me on my first multi-pitch climb and I have to say, it was a lot of fun!  We did the First Flat Iron (there are 5 total), which is also the largest.  We climbed over 1,000 feet and it took about 4.5 hours (not including the 45 minute hike to and from the rock). So needless to say, we were quite exhausted by the end (or at least I was) but it was a blast!!

The climb itself was pretty easy, just really long and very high up.  It was more like climbing up a reeeeally steep hill, rather than a vertical cliff like most climbs.  The view from the top was beautiful. {If you're not familiar with multi-pitch climbing, check out this link for a brief description of how it works} Now, enough of my blabbering, here are the pictures:

A view of the Flat Irons from far away

The First Flat Iron is the big one on the right

Getting ready to start on the trail to the base of the climb

It was such a beautiful day!!  The sky was such a pretty, deep blue.

At the base getting all our equipment ready.  I was feeling nervous and excited!

View from the first belay station (there was a cute little tree growing out of the rock)

That's me climbing up the 3rd pitch (there were 8 total)

Now it's Brody's turn (nice butt shot, huh??)

Do you see why they are called the "Flat Irons"?
That rock looks like you could flip it over and press the wrinkles out of your clothes!

Me just chillin on the second-to-last belay station

Made it to the top! (This is Brody)

Boo-ya!!

Brody had a cushy little seat on the top while he waited for me.

View from the top looking west (towards the Rocky Mountains)

View from the top looking east (towards Boulder)

We did a short repel from the top (about 80 feet) and then hiked the rest of the way down.

We had a great day together!!
I love Brody. I love being outside. And I love summer!!!

You know you did something amazing when carol comments! And it's true- this was amazing! Good job. You're so cool and brave. The scenery is gorgeous. Is that rock where Brody is standing on the top natural or painted? It's really pretty.

That is so cool that you did that, and it looks like a fabulous view! I love how adventurous you are- and I know Brody loves that too!
