To celebrate Valentine's Day this year, we thought we'd mix things up a bit by staying the night at a haunted hotel.
Remember this post from last fall? While on a day trip to Estes Park back in October, we visited the Stanely Hotel, {which if you don't remember, was the hotel that gave Stephen King his idea for the Shining, and is now famous for being haunted} Well a couple months ago, we came across a really good deal through Groupon for a one night stay at the Stanely and a free ticket for the ghost tour (which is really just a tour of the hotel with info about it's history). We just couldn't pass this one up!
So after work on Friday, we headed out for our weekend trip to the beautiful Estes Park and our one night stay in a haunted hotel.
The canyon to get to Estes is so beautiful, especially during this time of year |
The Stanely Hotel |
I was a little scared about this whole thing at first, but when we learned on the tour that the hotel is only haunted with friendly spirits, I felt much better. We personally didn't see/hear/feel anything, but we heard some pretty crazy stories of people who have. However, the walls were paper thin and the floors were super creaky... so that made it a little spooky. The hotel is 103 years old and has a lot of really cool/old features. Here are some pictures we took during the tour:

This is the room Stephen King stayed in. It is said to be the most haunted in the hotel and because of that, there is a 4-6 month wait to stay in this particular room. |

Some other cool items |
At the end of the tour, they took us underground beneath the foundation, where there were some tunnels and passageways. Also creepy. |
Of course, we had to take advantage of this situation and take some fun pictures.
The next morning, we woke up to a couple inches of fresh new snow- it was beautiful.

We spent a couple hours the next day walking around town and getting some lunch before heading home.
We had a great time just being together and doing something a little out of the ordinary.
On the actual Valentine's Day, we made a heart-shaped pizza and watched a movie together.
I hope everyone's day was filled with lots of LOVE!

What a fun post! Great adventure for you two and a little out of the ordinary for Valentines Day! It reminds me of the Inn in Somewhere in Time! Good to keep up to date with you two!
Yay! finally a post from the Hatch's! I loved your creative little Valentines get-away, and loved seeing all the cool pictures. That hotel is awesome. The ghosty pictures you took are so cool! It is so pretty there. And I look how scared you look in the cave picture. haha. You're a good actress. That hat Jessica made is so cute on you!
How fun!! That hotel looks awesome and totally haunted...
How VERY, VERY fun!! Did you know Bundy and I watched The Shining on our first date? Yeah, romantic huh? The outside of the Shining was filmed at the Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. My dad and I stayed there....super creepy. They remade the Shining and aired it on tv and I think they used the hotel that you stayed at. What a fun way to mix things up. Those ghost photos are totally awesome!!
Holy cow that place just gives me the creeps. I could not stay there. But I'm glad you guys had a fun time. Those are some cool pictures, especially the ghost ones! And... your hat looks cute on you. :)
Aaahhh.shucks.so fun!
Oh my gosh! How fun! When I was working at the Providence Inn/Old Rock Church I heard a bunch of stories of ghosts haunting that place. I was always sooo scared when I was working alone at night. Or when I had to go on the 3rd floor by myself for any reason.
