Climbing in Vedauwoo, WY

A couple weekends ago, we went climbing at a place called Vedauwoo (veeda-voo) in WY - about an hour away.  We had heard from lots of climbers that this place was really cool, so we were excited to go.  Brody's friend Nate was in town that weekend, so he came along.

The place itself was pretty cool with lots of interesting rock formations, but the type of climbing we did - crack climbing - was not my favorite.  In fact, I hated it and hope to never do it again.  It was just really hard and a little painful.  I still had fun though (when I wasn't climbing) just being out in nature and enjoying the pretty scenery.

On the way there, we passed by the famous town in WY that has a population of 2 people.

Getting ready to hike to the base of the first climb.

There were lots of boulders to scramble up.  That part was fun.

I spy with my little eye..... Brody and Nate hiking through the woods.  Can you spot both of them?

I liked the mushroom rock on the left

Geared up and ready go! (I had no idea at this point what I was getting myself into)

Nate went up first

Then me.

Then Brody came up last - isn't he cute??

The view from the top

This picture is hilarious in so many ways...1). I look like I'm the size of an 8 year old, compared to Brody
2). Brody's head and right arm look ginormous
3). Best of all - Brody's left arm looks tiny, shriveled and dying compared to his right arm.
I know it's all because Brody is closer to the camera than I am, but it's still pretty funny.

We repelled down the back side of the rock

After the first climb, we found a cute little spot to eat a picnic lunch.

Waiting for the boys to finish gathering all the gear and join me for lunch

Then I took pictures of some more cool rock formations

A far off view of our first climb

A far off view of our second climb

After lunch, we headed to our next/last climb.  {there were a lot of people there and we had to wait our turn on both climbs, so we only had time for 2}

The first part of the climb was a little tricky, so we had to get creative

A cool rock with a hole in it

Repelling down - did you notice that I have a different pair of pants on?
Probably not but I'll explain anyway .... in the next picture

The casualties...

After the first climb, Brody kindly informed me that I had a pretty good sized hole in the back of my pants and everyone could see my bum.  I crossed my fingers that I was high enough up that no one could really tell.  Nate was kind enough to lend me his extra pair of shorts for the rest of the day.

Those marks on my knees are just a small example of the many cuts, scrapes and bruises I had all over my body after our day of climbing.  Like I said - not a super fun route.

But, despite the injuries and my hatred toward crack climbing, it was still a fun day.  For the most part. :)

Wow, those rocks look cool, but not fun to climb up! haha- funny that your pants got a whole in them.. and you are lucky that Nate had an extra pair! And, that is so crazy that there is a place that has a population of 2! What the??

Ummmm, how am I so far behind on your blog? I scrolled down to comment on an older post, but I am way behind. You and Brody are the coolest couple I know! Seriously. Always doing an adventure, always outside. I can't wait to come and visit and have some of your awesomeness rub off on us.

I'm just a little slow seeing this post---- I'm too busy having fun visiting you guys to be looking at blogs! This looks like a very hard climb but the scenery is gorgeous. I totally understand why you didn't love it. "Good for you" for doing it anyway. You are amazing. I can't believe how badly your knees were scraped up.
